Flower Shop - Build Your Own Bouquet

Like many families, our LEGO® journey began the same way it does for so many others — walking into
stores with our twins and leaving with a box of bricks.
At the time, we never imagined those bricks would eventually grow into a business, a creative outlet, and a community of builders across the country.
What began as a simple family hobby slowly turned into something much bigger

A Basement Full of Bricks

Years ago, my wife and I thought it would be fun to start a small online LEGO® store with our twins. It seemed like a great way to spend time together while teaching them a little bit about entrepreneurship.
We started buying used LEGO® bulk and sorting it together in our basement. At first, it was fun for everyone. But kids grow up quickly.

Before long, the twins were far more interested in building creations, playing with friends, and spending time outside than sorting bins of bricks. Eventually the sorting slowed down… and the LEGO® started to quietly take over the basement.

Life moved on. Careers got busy. And the bricks sat there for a while

Rediscovering the Joy of Building

A few years later, with demanding careers in retail leadership, we found ourselves coming back to those bins of bricks again.
What started as a simple goal — reclaiming some basement space — quickly turned into something we didn’t expect.
Sorting LEGO® after long days at work became relaxing. Creative.
Almost meditative. Soon our ideas started shifting from simply sorting parts to asking: What could we actually create with these bricks? Two things immediately stood out to us: Brick-built flowers and LEGO® mosaics.

They were beautiful, creative, and endlessly customizable. More than that, they reminded me of something much earlier in my life — spending afternoons freebuilding with my grandfather after our monthly trips to Toys “R” Us.
That feeling of creativity and curiosity came rushing back. And once that spark returned, it was impossible to ignore.

The First Blooms

As we experimented with different flower builds, colors, and variations, we started noticing something special.
People didn’t just like the flowers. They loved the ability to mix and match them. Instead of buying a fixed bouquet, customers could build their own. Different colors. Different blooms. Different combinations.
Every bouquet became personal. What started as a handful of designs quickly grew into something we called our Brick Built Flower Shop.
And the more we shared it, the more people connected with it.

Taking the Leap

At the time, both my wife and I were working demanding careers as retail district managers.
Our schedules were already full. So we had a decision to make. Do we pause this creative side project… or do we lean into it and see where it could go? Around that same time, we discovered a fast-growing LEGO® retail franchise model that checked every box we were looking for — a place where creativity, community, and building could live under one roof.
In mid-2023, while still working full time in our corporate roles, we signed the lease for our first standalone LEGO® resale store.
At the same time, we kept building our flower collection.
Late nights became design nights. Weekends became build days. And slowly, the idea kept growing.

Growing the Bloom

By late 2024, the momentum was impossible to ignore. We made the leap to focus fully on our LEGO® businesses. We opened a second retail location in a neighboring community and began sharing our flower designs with other stores throughout the franchise. What started with a few simple blooms has now grown into:
  • 100+ unique brick-built flowers
  • Mix-and-match bouquet systems
  • Wholesale programs for retail partners
  • Custom packaging and displays
  • Retail locations filled with builders of all ages

    • Today, Block Blooms products are reaching locally owned LEGO® resale stores and independent toy retailers across the country. But every new bloom still begins the same way — with curiosity and creativity

    Designed in Real LEGO® Stores

One of the things that makes Block Blooms unique is where our ideas come from. Every bloom we design is tested in our own LEGO® resale stores, where we see firsthand how customers interact with the products, how kids build with them, and how collectors mix different flowers together.

This real-world feedback helps us refine designs, improve packaging, and expand the collection in ways that truly resonate with builders.
It also allows us to support other retailers with products that are already proven to work on store shelves.

Because Block Blooms wasn’t created in a design studio — it was built in real stores, alongside real builders.

    A Family Story

While our twins may not sort bricks anymore, they were a huge part of this journey.
Before heading off to college, we spent countless weekends side by side in our stores — welcoming customers, setting up displays, dusting off built sets, and talking with kids about what’s possible with a handful of bricks.

Those moments mattered. Because creativity doesn’t come from certainty. It comes from curiosity. From trying something new. From following ideas even when you’re not quite sure where they might lead. And sometimes, that curiosity can completely change the direction of your life.

    Today

Today, I work full time supporting our retail locations, growing our business-to-business flower program, and helping other LEGO® store owners understand the financial foundations necessary to build, run, and grow successful businesses.

My wife continues to work in her professional field during the week, while still spending late nights helping push our shared passion forward — designing, testing, and refining the next ideas for Block Blooms.

Because even though this business has grown far beyond our basement… It’s still built on the same thing that started it all. Creativity. Family. And a love for building something beautiful from simple bricks.

    Our Mission

At Block Blooms, we believe creativity should be flexible, personal, and fun. Our goal is simple — to make creativity bloom one brick at a time.
We do that by creating brick-built floral designs that can be mixed, matched, and built into bouquets as unique as the people who create them. No two bouquets need to look the same.
And the possibilities are always growing.

    Looking Ahead

In the years ahead, we’re excited to continue expanding Block Blooms — creating new flower designs, supporting more retail partners, and bringing brick-built creativity to even more builders and collectors. What started as a few bins of LEGO® in a basement has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined. And in many ways…
    we’re still just getting started.
